Adler is the southernmost resort in Russia, the younger brother of Sochi and a good neighbor of Krasnaya Polyana. Technically, Adler (like the entire Adler district, by which, in fact, Adler is meant) is part of the resort city of Sochi, but let’s consider them as a self-sufficient point on the map, especially since there really is something to do and where to relax.
Adler stands on the Black Sea coast, stretching for 17 km along both banks of the violent mountain river Mzymta. Despite the complexity of subordinating Sochi, Adler is also divided into 15 microdistricts and settlements, many of which deserve attention due to their special color and local nuances.
By the way, two more rivers are the original borders of the city – from Sochi, Adler is separated by Kudepsta, and the resort is separated from Abkhazia by the Psou River. Agree, such a distinction is very convenient for orientation on the ground.
How to get to Adler
By plane
The easiest, most democratic and fastest way to Adler, if you are not a resident of Sochi or Krasnodar, of course, is air travel. Sochi International Airport receives flights from 60 cities in Russia, near and far abroad, and there is probably an air port closest to you on this list. A direct flight from Moscow will take about 2-3 hours, the most budget ticket from Pobeda.
The flight from St. Petersburg will take a little over 3 hours. See other countries beginning with R.
From airport to city
Adler Airport is located in the city center, a taxi ride to the most distant microdistricts, if ordered in advance through dispatch services, will cost from 300-350 RUB. Private traders are a matter of luck – you can negotiate cheaper, or you can, especially in the high season, run into not the most adequate price offers.
Do not forget that obligatory taxi driver tales about the last bus that just left and the terribly dug up road are a traditional story for southern stations and airports. The further you are from this informational noise, the lower the fare will be.
Also, minibuses go along many streets of the city to all microdistricts and villages, if you are not afraid of public transport and are able to talk and interrogate the first local resident that comes across, then take a bus to the hotel or boarding house.
By train
Trains run even to Adler, the railway station of the same name is located on the Black Sea coast and is the final stop on most routes to the south. From Moscow, trains depart from Kursky, Paveletsky and Kazansky stations, the journey takes an average of 1.5 days. On the way from St. Petersburg, lay down already 2 days, departures from Moscow, Ladoga and Vitebsk stations.
By bus or car
From many cities in southern Russia can be reached by regular bus. Most go to the Sochi intercity bus station, from there to Adler get on local minibuses or fashionable high-speed trains “Swallows” – the fare is from 320 RUB. Prices on the page are for November 2022.
The option of traveling to Adler resorts by car should be considered by residents of nearby regions with good driving experience – the serpentines of the Caucasus Mountains have not disappeared, they are still dangerous and difficult, especially at night, in rain or fog. The road from the capital – excluding stops – will take at least a day, if you decide on such an adventure, it would be good to have at least two experienced drivers in the crew and a margin of time for force majeure.
History paragraph

Hotels in Adler
Long before the Olympics in Adler and its environs there were plenty of places for accommodation, recreation and health improvement along the way – private guest houses, departmental sanatoriums and hotels. By the Games, the situation with accommodation has only improved – new mini-hotels, inns, and chic chain hotel complexes have appeared.
During a night in a guest house during low demand, they will ask from 700-900 RUB, and three-star hotels will cost two to three times more.
A separate topic for conversation is the sanatoriums and boarding houses of Adler. You need to learn about them purposefully, since many of these worthy establishments are still not represented on popular hotel and hotel aggregators and can pass by the traveler, accustomed to the modern way of booking accommodation.
